It went west from Rutland to Castleton, to Poultney, VT, to Granville, NY, to Salem, Cambridge, and connected with they Troy and Boston. The road was completed in 1852 and proved to be very important to the Rutland success in the south and east to Boston until the completion of the Hoosac Tunnel in 1875, which routed traffic to Boston.
